Ready to lose weight & give up dieting?
Hi, I am Treva-- creator of the Real Healthy Habits community. As a registered dietitian, certified personal trainer, and certified health coach, you would think that I would find weight loss a snap.
Getting to and staying at my goal weight has always been a challenge.
But when I gained forty extra pounds due to thyroid disease, I became obsessed at winning the battle with the scale once and for all. I decided that once I learned the formula of how to lose weight and keep it off forever, I would share it.
Because I had to dig deep to lose those forty pounds and keep them off, I am not like other nutrition experts. I don’t just tell people to eat less and exercise more.
If that worked, we would all be thin. Those of us that have had to struggle, know what it is like to eat small amounts, gain weight like crazy, and have our doctors say that we just eat too much.
We need real solutions.
It has taken me years, and my research has lead me all over. I’ve become an expert in all kinds of fields—hormones, behavioral psychology, habit formation, environmental design, exercise, stress management, and of course--nutrition.
You know what I’ve learned?
Instead, we each need a personalized combination of habits. We each have a unique combination of likes, physiology, and lifestyle that we need to take into account to be successful at weight loss.
I have found a combination that works for me. I still refine it every couple months as my preferences change, my body changes, or my life changes.
Over the past two years, I have been streamlining, simplifying, and systematizing this unique weight loss approach with hundreds of my patients and now with my own weight loss coaching clients. I started this blog to get these ideas and strategies out to you.
I don’t want one more woman to waste her life and energy feeling defeated about her weight-- like I was.
What frustrates me, is that research plainly shows that diets don’t work in the long run. Yet, we are “told” that the only way to lose weight is to go on a diet and exercise more.
Women use these one-size-fits-all diets and then blame themselves when they don’t work.
It’s not fair. And I am sick of it. It breaks my heart to see women think there is something wrong with their willpower, something defective in them. It isn’t true. It’s the deprivation diet approach that’s all wrong.
By incorporating key strategies and helping women craft their own solutions, I have discovered how women can lose weight for the long run. My goal is to teach and empower women through these ideas.
I realize that at times your body changes, your lifestyle changes (think summer vacation for moms), or you just get sick of something, and you need to change your approach. I’ll teach you how to see when something is no longer working and what to do about it.
As a mother of four, I don’t have time for things that don’t work. I know that you are just as busy and feel the same way. I am committed to only sharing things that will make life simpler and healthier. And, I know it’s hard to believe, but even more fun.
Through my work, I have found that long term weight management and health can be easier than you think. The little things do make all the difference. Realize that you can start now. The key is building on one small habit at a time. Break free from the all-or-nothing thinking that popular diets peddle.
